How Manchester looked back in 1950 Tom Stuttard’s photograph of Victoria Street in Holiday Fog was the Guardian’s first picture library. Although Stuttard was known to have covered many major news events (including a seminal photograph of Neville Chamberlain), photographs such as this one,  showcase a talent, and hunger for recording Manchester’s ‘everyday’. In light of this he is a significant contributor to the development of the Guardian’s photographic style and an important part of a lineage of Manchester-based photographers.
